PORTLAND – Eleanor Mae Heflin, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough, after a brief illness. Eleanor was the youngest and last surviving child of Albro and Lulie Cushing of Cliff Island. She grew up with her sisters and brothers on Cliff Island and attended Seventh-day Advent School. Ellie traveled back and forth on the ferry to Portland High School and graduated in 1938. She married Winston Heflin during World War II. He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army. She was a devoted and loving mother who will be dearly missed. Family was the most important thing in her life. Ellie, as she liked to be called, loved her visits to Cliff Island and her sister’s farm in Falmouth. In her later life she lived at Northfield Green, where she made many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Winston Heflin; sisters, Bernice Allen, Dorothy Kelly, Virginia Jennings; brother, Elliot Cushing; and brother-in-law, Thomas Kelley. Survivors include her children, Carole and husband, Walter Jellison, of South Portland, Pamela and husband, Bruce Boisvert, of Bangor and Sally and husband, Joseph Krasowski, of York; grandchildren, Patrick Miller, Cheryl and husband, Eric Greenleaf, Lisa and husband, Mark Arsenault, Kimberly and fiance, Brian Nappi, Christopher Boisvert and Michelle Kivler, Jeffrey and wife, Susan Boisvert, Debra and husband, Jeffrey Fournier, Suzanne and husband, Jeffrey Houghton, Sandra and husband, Tom Fyfe, Teresa and husband, Tom Leccesse and Joseph and wife, Kimberly Krasowski III; great-grandchildren, Jason, Josh, Alex, Jarred, Ian, Seth, Allison, Jonathan, Jake, Morgen, Abigail, Julia, Nicholas, William, Ashley, Kenny, Heather, Bryan, Matthew, Andrew and Emily; nieces, Dorothy Rumpf and Sharon Conley; and brother-in-law, Martin and wife, Cese Jennings. Visiting hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, where a funeral service will take place 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16. Private interment will be held Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
