ASHLAND – Edward J. Morin passed away peacefully Jan. 15, 2010, at Lexington Medical Center, West Columbia, S.C., with family members present. Born July 2, 1923, in Ashland, he was the son of the late Alcide and Elsie (Berube) Morin. Eddie attended Ashland area schools. He began his lifelong vocation as a boy of 13 working alongside his father in the Maine woods. In 1943, he was inducted into the Armed Forces serving in the Third Army of the European Theater of World War II under the command of Gen. George S. Patton. Returning to Maine after an honorable discharge, he married Geneva Garrity, in 1947, at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Portage. They enjoyed 62 years of married life together in Ashland. After his marriage, Eddie was employed by Forrest Page, a local farmer and businessman who was instrumental in serving as a mentor and supporter in the founding of his business, Morin and Morin Lumber, Inc. As a couple, Eddie and Geneva operated the family lumber business for more than 40 years. Eddie was an active and respected member of his community. He served on Ashland Town Council, and was a member of the board of directors of the Washburn Trust Co. and Merrill Bank. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Leblanc-Junkins Post No. 9699, member of American Legion, Rotary Club, member of and contributor to Ashland Logging Museum, and was a third degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 2889 of Ashland. Eddie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and friend. An avid hunter and fisherman, Eddie always found a sense of peace and fellowship with family and friends in the northern Maine woods. Of the many joys of his life, his family was most important. Eddie is survived by his seven children, Cynthia and Frank Wilcox of Columbia, S.C., Nancy and Frank Pytlak of Presque Isle, Patricia and Richard Lyons of Hampden, Mary Ellen and Michael Violette of Boise, Idaho, Mark and Alanna Morin of Williston, N.D., Anne Marie and Jesse Dodd of Grand Junction, Colo., and Peter and Nancy Morin of Scarborough. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, Jason, Katelin and Amanda Wilcox, Emily Pytlak Rooney, Andrew and Bethany Pytlak, Krystyna Pytlak Gonsioroski, Matthew and Megan Lyons, Cory, Amy Beth and Michelle Violette, Shauna and Tara Morin Hillstrom, Edward, Jared, Genevieve and Jacob Dodd, Ellie, Jackie and Trevor Morin; and two great-grandsons, Jackson and Logan Wilcox. He leaves one sister, Florence (Morin) Clark of Mars Hill; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Eddie was predeceased by his wife, Geneva, in March 2008; a daughter, Pamela Sue Morin; and a brother, Ronald Morin. A rosary will begin 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, with a visitation 7-9 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Portage. Relatives and friends may also call 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday at the church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Aaron Damboise, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Edward J. and Geneva G. Morin Community Service Scholarship for a graduating senior of Ashland Community High School, care of Mark E.
