NEWPORT and BANGOR – Darren Lincoln Folsom, 40, died Jan. 24, 2010, surrounded by his loved ones at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. He was born Aug. 21, 1969, in Pittsfield, a son of Thomas and Gloria (Rines) Folsom. Darren was a graduate of Nokomis Regional High, Class of 1988, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a lance corporal in Desert Shield. For the past 10 years, Darren loved his work at Country Inn and Suites at the mall in Bangor, where he was promoted three years ago to general manager. He was an avid outdoorsman; spending time hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming and camping with his family. He enjoyed “one on one” basketball with his big brother and nephews, and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed cooking and reading, and participated in his community as a member of the PTA and Jaycees. He is survived by his mother, Gloria and husband, David Hitchings, of East Machias; maternal grandmother, Christy Rines of Newport; his fiancee, Sara Knowles and children, Evan and Cassandra, all of Bangor; his daughters, Kayla and Haley Folsom of Levant; a brother, Thomas Folsom and friend, Janet Chamberlin, both of Stetson; a sister, Darlene and husband, Edward O’Hara, of Dickson City, Pa.; his special nephews, Jarrod and wife, Cindy Clark, of Manchester, Conn., and Lincoln Clark and significant other, Renee Beaudry, of Dexter; his many aunts and uncles, Brenda and husband, Phil Zukatis, of Buxton, Lucy and husband, Don Philbrook, of Jay, Everett and wife, Mary Ellen Rines, of Newport, Nancy and husband, Dave Nickerson, of Tennessee, and Robert Rines of Pittsfield; as well as many cousins. Darren was predeceased by his father, Thomas J. Folsom; his grandfather, Lincoln Folsom; his paternal grandmother, Doris Folsom; his maternal grandfather, Everett E. Rines; and a daughter, Macy Folsom. Friends may call 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport, where a memorial service will begin 3 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Al H.
