BREWER – William B. Shaw, Sr., 70, died Jan. 24, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in 1940, in Machias, the son of Raymond F. and Faustina I. (Colson) Shaw. Bill graduated from Harrington High School in 1957, and attended Husson College and the University of Maine. He served 10 years with the U.S. Navy and spent most of his employment years working numbers as an impeccable accountant. He retired from Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center business office in 2006, due to poor health. Bill enjoyed spending time at camp at Grand Lake, fishing and having family time. He grew up in Harrington with lifelong friends, Everett and Marge Ramsdell, and Mike and Marion Plumber. The stories he loved to tell were of times he definitely treasured. Bill loved playing pool and watching sports, especially basketball. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Brenda Brown Shaw of Brewer, are his two sons, William Shaw Jr. and his wife, Abby, of Paragon, Ind., and Alex Shaw and his wife, Jannell, of Hermon; his only daughter, Angie Shaw and her significant other, John Barry, of Ellsworth; a stepson, Mark Brown and his wife, Lydia, of Maiden, N.C.; several grandchildren, including three special grandsons, William III, Ryan and Brandon Shaw; one great-grandson, Hunter; a sister-in-law, Lillian Shaw of Harrington; and two other sons in Michigan. He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Raymond Shaw Jr. He will be remembered by his best pool buddy, “Hank” Hews. Bill’s family gratefully acknowledges the staff of Brewer Rehabilitation, Maine Center for Integrated Rehabilitation, Westgate adult program and Eastern Maine Medical Center intensive care unit for the excellent care provided. A service honoring Bill’s life will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where family and friends may visit 5 p.m. until the service begins.
