BAR HARBOR – Samuel “Sam” F. Gray Jr., 88, died Jan. 25, 2010, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. He was born March 29, 1921, in Trenton, the son of Samuel F. and Ethel (McLane) Gray Sr. Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing and being at hunting camp. He owned his own carpentry business for many years and he enjoyed making furniture. Sam was a Navy veteran during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 4209, Ocala, Fla. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Althea (Pinkham) Gray of Bar Harbor; two sons, Norman Gray and wife, Christina, of Bar Harbor, and Sam Gray III and wife, Bonnie, of Hermon; one daughter, Janice Gendron and husband, Robert, of Meriden, Conn.; one sister, Ethel Leach of Ellsworth; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Sam was predeceased by a daughter, Alice Faye Blanton. Visitation will be held 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday.
