MACHIAS – Beverly (Cheney) Edwards died Jan. 22, 2010, at her home, after a long illness. She was born Jan. 2, 1948, the daughter of Bernard L. Cheney and the late Virginia (Schoppee) Cheney. Mrs. Edwards graduated from Machias High School and the University of Maine, and received her master’s degree from Boston University. She taught elementary school and special education in Vermont and Utah prior to returning to the Machias area with her husband to raise their three sons. She is survived by her father, Bernard L. Cheney; her husband of 35 years, Dr. John A. Edwards; their three sons, Benjamin of Providence, R.I., Matthew of Austin, Texas, and Peter Edwards of Spring, Texas; a brother-in-law, Larry P. Edwards of Chula Vista, Calif.; an aunt, Rebecca Carlson and husband, Russell, of North Palm Beach, Fla., and their children, Daniel, Evelyn and Laurie; many close and devoted friends and family. There will be no visitation or services. A private committal will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contribution to Virginia S. Cheney Scholarship, UMM Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, University of Maine at Machias or to a charity of their choice. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Machias.
