NEWBURGH and GLENBURN – Maurice L. Knowles Sr., 74, passed away March 1, 2010, with his family by his side. He was born Feb. 3, 1936, in Bangor, the oldest son of Bertrand and June Knowles of Glenburn. Maurice was a longtime employee of Snow & Neally. He also cut wood and plowed driveways. Maurice loved being outdoors, and he enjoyed going to Dysart’s Convenience Store, Newburgh, visiting with his friends, drinking coffee and telling stories. He also enjoyed playing poker and cribbage. Maurice is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maxine (Harding) Knowles of Newburgh; and his children, Melody Ryan and her husband, Craig, of Bangor, Maurice Jr. and his wife, Clare, of Levant, Matthew and his partner, Holly Millet, of Clifton, Missy Pinkham and her husband, Eddie, of Glenburn and Billy Knowles and his wife, Josie, of Dover-Foxcroft. He is also survived by five sisters and four brothers, Marie Richardson and her husband, Lloyd, June Wilson and her husband, Orrin, Judy Brawn and her husband, Marvin, Jackie Ellingwood and her husband, Ralph, Julia Bean and her husband, Derwood, Merton Knowles and his companion, Phyllis, Melvin Knowles and his wife, Lois Ann, Milton Knowles, and Norris Knowles and his wife, Catherine; 14 grandchildren, Mark, Katie, Ashley, Renee, Matthew, Amanda, Brandon, June, Samantha, Dylan, Tiffani, Tyler, Tatianna and Harley; and 10 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Elise, Quintin, Damien, Zachary, Hailey, Abbie, Tyler, Savannah and Brooklynn. He was predeceased by a son, Donald Timon; and granddaughter, Marissa Pinkham. The family wishes to thank New Hope Hospice for their special help and care. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with Tammy Noyes, pastor of Carmel Full Gospel Church of Restoration, officiating.
