NEWBURGH – Roland L. Averill, 75, died March 3, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Bangor, son of Roger and Irene Lillith (Sproul) Averill. Rollie was a graduate of Bangor High School and served in the Army National Guard. After employment in design for area businesses for several years, he started his own design business, Design Services, in 1969. Rollie designed many custom homes and commercial renovations. He was a talented artist who enjoyed sketching and creating cartoons, and passed his love of design and drawing onto his sons. Rollie attended Faith Temple Church of God, Belfast, for the past several years. He was a member of Mechanics Lodge No. 66 AF & AM of Orono, Scottish Rites Bodies, Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory 32 Degree, Anah Shriners, a potentate’s aid and a member of Provost Guard. Surviving are his dear friend, Joyce Morse of Searsport; two sons, Dana Averill and his wife, Kathy, of Brewer, and Dale Averill of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Collin and Ryan Averill; his former wife and the mother of his children, Patricia (Lagerquist) Averill of Glenburn; two brothers, Kenneth Averill of Orono and Terrance Averill of Oregon; two sisters, Sharon Archer of Bangor and Lucille “Cindy” DeBeck of Newburgh; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence; and a sister, Irene. Relatives and friends are invited to a gathering of remembrance and to share conversation and refreshments 5-7 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
