NORWOOD, Mass. – Earle “Nick” Cameron Pendleton, 54, passed away peacefully March 2, 2010. Nick was born April 25, 1955, in Belfast, the son of Elden and Ardern (Mace) Pendleton. Nick was educated in the Searsport district schools. He attended American University and Ricker College, and later enlisted in the Air Force, where he worked as a supply specialist at bases in California and Turkey. Nick took great pride in his job in the Air Force and was known to be a stickler for details and numbers. After his discharge from the Air Force, he continued his studies at Hunter College, New York City, and drove a taxi in Manhattan at night to support himself. He worked for years in the Boston area non-profit sector and was employed by the Red Cross of Boston as a blood drive coordinator. He was very active with veterans groups in the Greater Boston area, managing a Veterans Outreach Center, Framingham, Mass. Nick was an ardent sports fan and was never too far from a Red Sox, Celtics or Patriots game, either in person or watching on his high-definition widescreen. He loved to surprise his extended family with tickets for games, especially to the Red Sox and Celtics. His extensive and complicated health issues motivated a move to the drier location of Las Cruces, N.M. He bought a home and very much enjoyed his time there, often taking long sightseeing drives out into the desert or taking in New Mexico State basketball games. Nick is survived by his mother, Ardern Pendleton; his brother, Don and sister-in-law, Anne; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Megan, Brett, Michael and Kristen. He was predeceased by his father, Elden in 1992; and his younger brother, Michael in 2004. Nick’s family thanks the Veterans Affairs organizations of Massachusetts and New Mexico for all of their support and assistance provided to Nick throughout the years. He will be missed by all and remembered for his kind heart, quick wit, sense of humor and his contagious laugh. At his request, services will be private and his ashes will be spread on Penobscot Bay, off Searsport, accompanying a family gathering this summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions on Nick’s behalf may be made to a charitable organization of your choice. Arrangements by Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, Westwood, Mass.
