FARMINGDALE – Catherine “Kay” P. Baird, 90, of Litchfield Road, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. She was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Greenville, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Chase) Powers. Kay graduated from Milo High School and later from Farmington Normal School in 1942. She had worked for the Agricultural Extension Service, South Paris, as a 4-H county agent and was assistant 4-H director for the state of Maine. She later worked as a home economist for Central Maine Power, and with her husband redeveloped the King and Bartlett Camps near Eustis into a trout fishing lodge for International Telephone and Telegraph. Kay was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed fishing and gardening. Her hobbies included training and raising Labrador retrievers. They raised many dogs throughout the years, including their most recent dog, Maggie O’Toole. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Frederick Baird of Farmingdale; several nieces and nephews, including Tom Hazelton and his wife, Catherine, of Newington, N.H. Visiting will be held 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, at a later date and time to be announced.
