BATH – Helen Jane Page Parshley, 91, a resident of HillHouse, died Monday, March 8, 2010. She was born Aug. 5, 1918, in Fort Fairfield, a daughter of Emery and Beatrice (Libby) Page. She attended a one-room country school in Fort Fairfield. Her grandfather, Page, gave the town of Fort Fairfield the land to build the school on; therefore it was named Page School. She attended Fort Fairfield High School and graduated in 1938 from Eastern Academy of Hairdressing and Beauty Culture of Bangor. She managed her Aunt Ina Chapman Beauty Shop, Ashland. She was employed at Mary Knight Beauty Shop, Fort Fairfield until 1942. On Feb. 2, 1942, she married George E. Parshley and they resided in Bath. After her marriage, she was employed for Madam Billier at her beauty shop until 1944. From 1958 to 1980, she was employed as a stitcher at Health Tex, Brunswick, until her retirement. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Bath; St. Mary’s Guild; Bath Area Senior Citizens; and Coasters of Bath. She enjoyed fishing the Allagash with her husband, where they pitched a tent by the St. John River for years and rented a cottage in later years. They had three generations for guides, Keith Hafford; his father, Clifford; and his father, Mr. Hafford, all of Allagash. She also enjoyed hunting deer in Belfast, they stayed at her sister, Velma’s, and hunted with her brother-in-law, Lloyd Nickerson and his brothers. She enjoyed her cottage in Arrowsic where they spent their summers. They had lots of company, did lots of cooking, outdoor picnics, boat riding and swimming. Helen also enjoyed doing craftwork and traveling to visit her sisters, brother, daughters and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George E. Parshley, in 1997; one brother, Emery Page; four sisters, Velma Nickerson, Elsie Fox, Ferne Clark and Anna Hellison. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane Parshley of Bath, and Bonnie Jean Knight and her husband, Michael, of Hollywood, Md.; two half sisters, Shirleen Page Roseman and her husband, Dave, of Merchanics, Pa., and Eveleen Page Chapman and her husband, Ronald, of Toronto; two grandsons, Johnathen and Timothy Knight; two great-granddaughters, Shannon and Sophia; many nieces and nephews. A visiting hour will be held 1-2 p.m. Friday at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath, where a funeral service will begin 2 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Ambler officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be at Bath Area Senior Citizens, Floral Street, Bath. Burial will be later in the spring at Oak Grove Cemetery, Bath.
