ORONO, BANGOR, BOSTON, DENNIS, Mass., and NAUGATUCK, Conn. – John Bickford Sr., 78, died peacefully in his sleep March 10, 2010, at Orono Commons. He was born May 27, 1931, in Boston, the son of Arthur and Grace Bickford. John attended Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne, Switzerland and spent his professional career as a chef and a hotel/restaurant manager or owner. His work took him from Hotel Roosevelt in New York; to White Horse Tavern, Newport; to Half Shell Restaurant of Boston; Weston Golf Club; and The Hampshire House, Boston; and finished work as a consultant during the 1980s. John is survived by his three sons, William and John “Jay” Bickford of Winterport and Thomas Bickford of Orono; as well as his stepson, Scott Griggs. He is also survived by his brother, Arthur; and his seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia; and his brother, Dan. John will be remembered 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at his son’s house, 167 Bennoch Road, Orono. Bring your memories and your photos to share.
