BOOTHBAY HARBOR – Mark A. Brewer, 53, beloved husband and father, passed away unexpectedly March 13, 2010, at St. Andrews Hospital, Boothbay Harbor. Mark was born Dec. 4, 1956, in Boothbay Harbor, the son of the late Arnold and Elizabeth (Hill) Brewer. He was a graduate of Gould Academy, Class of 1975, where he was a member of the State Champion basketball team. After high school he attended Husson College, where he received two bachelors’ degrees, one in business management and the other in accounting. While at Husson, Mark was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. After college Mark worked as an accounting manager for Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket. In 2000, he began work as the chief financial officer at Hardwood Products Co. LLC and Puritan Medical Products Company LLC, Guilford. First and foremost Mark adored his family. They were always first in everything that he did. He truly lived to make others lives wonderful. He was a true man of his community, whether he was coaching basketball at the local YMCA or his past work in other communities such as president and vice president of the PTA. If you needed anything, he was more than willing to do anything he could to help out. Some of his hobbies included fly-fishing, which included making his own rods as well as tying his own flies. Mark would often spend hours walking through the woods to get to the best spots. He loved to spend time on his boat, The Eagle, which was named in combination with Trish’s favorite band as well as the patriotism that was instilled in Mark from his father, Arnold. He always had a joke and saw Trish as his best audience because she laughed at everything. His family describes him always being the entertainer and loved his ability to make light of difficult situations. He had a deep love and concern for helping the children of his community always making anonymous donations to charitable cases. He was a member of Knights of Columbus recently becoming a fourth degree knight, the organization’s highest ranking. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Boothbay, a “family” dear to the Brewer’s hearts. From the family’s perspective, a “gentle giant” has been lost in flesh, but forever a giant in family devotion, a giant in community service, a giant in a shoulder to lean on, a giant to count on, a giant with a golden heart, a giant of a husband and father. We love you! Mark was predeceased by his father, Arnold Brewer Jr.; his mother, Elizabeth Brewer; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Buxton. Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia “Trish” Brewer of Boothbay Harbor; and his beloved daughters, Katelyn “Katie Bugs” Brewer of Alexandria, Va., Meghan “Meggie” Brewer of Boothbay Harbor and Courtney “Cort” Brewer of Boothbay Harbor Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Mark’s honor to American Heart Association, 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074 or Dana Farber Cancer Institute, attention contribution services, 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02455-7226.
