BUCKSPORT and HOWLAND – Irene L. Sawyer, 85, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died March 25, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 21, 1924, in Argyle, the daughter of William “Bill” and Betsy (Curtis) Dow. She and her much loved husband, Hunk, shared a great love for Jacob Buck Pond. They had many wonderful memories there with family and friends during their life. Her family, friends and her devoted dog, Skippy, will miss her terribly, but also have many precious memories to keep her close. She dearly loved her lifelong friend, Myrtle “Tootie” Reed of Howland. She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Drake and her three children, Randy Deans and wife, Kathy, Deborah (Deans) Candage and husband, Dennis, and Melinda (Deans) Stegner and husband, Richard; and two sons, Gary Sawyer and wife, Cora and grandson, Arron Sawyer and wife, Donna, and Eugene Drake and wife, Lisa, and Gene’s children, William “Billy” Drake, Gary, Frank and Jennie Wotton. She was also blessed with many beloved great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Hunk Sawyer; her father and mother; one sister, Verlie Campbell; nieces and uncle. The family is grateful for the wonderful and compassionate care she received in the critical care unit at St. Joseph Hospital. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
