CALAIS – Dorothy I. (Freeman) Mahar passed away Friday, April 2, 2010. She was born June 9, 1909, in Rollingdam, New Brunswick, to James E. and Hester (McKinney) Freeman. Dorothy worked for W.T. Grants, Calais. When they built a new store in Houlton, she moved there to set up the credit department and offices in 1967. She made many friends and enjoyed Houlton so much she stayed long after her retirement. Her parents predeceased her by age 3. She and her only sister, Etta, were raised by her father’s sister, Mary O’Brien and her husband, John, on Church Street, Milltown, New Brunswick. She was also predeceased by her husband, Edward Mahar, in 1960; her sister, Etta Estevez of New York City, in 1955; and her daughter, Patricia (Mahar) Smith, in 2003. She is survived by her daughters, Norma Allen and her family, Paula, Shannon, Ralph and Howard, and Ann Corbett and her sons, James and Daniel; a special great-granddaughter, Brenna Corbett; and a very special friend, Joanne Bartlett. Arrangements will be at a later date. To Mom, I know a smile I love to see, a voice I love to hear. I know a hand I love to hold, a presence I love near. I know a heart – a loving heart that’s thoughtful, fine and true. I know them all, and love them all, for they belong to you. Norma, Ann and Patricia
