PALM COAST, Fla., and BANGOR – Alton “Al” Francis Wilcox, 85, died peacefully Feb. 24, 2010, of brain cancer at his home in Palm Coast, Fla. He was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Brewer, the son of Charles and Margaret (French) Wilcox. He graduated from Brewer High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on Okinawa, in Korea, Manchuria, China, and Japan. He received the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from New England Telephone and Telegraph, and was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 185, AF & AM of Bar Harbor and Anah Temple Shrine. Throughout the years he lived in Bar Harbor, Calais, Bangor and Spring Hill, Fla. He is survived by his sons, James Wilcox of Manchester, N.H., and Ronald Wilcox and his companion, Jay Fowler, of Bunnell, Fla.; five granddaughters, Kristine Wilkinson and her husband, Scott, of Glen Falls, N.Y. and their children, Ryan, Nicholas, Matthew and Emily, Jennifer Babenko and her husband, Michael, of Warminster, Penn., and their children, Christopher and Erika, Lisa Adams of Bangor and her children, Tyler and Kyle, Melanie Wilcox of Holden, Mass., and Joanne Wilcox of Worcester, Mass.; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Pauline (Jordan) Wilcox, in 1999; a daughter, Sandra (Wilcox) Adams Garnett Williams, in 1987; a brother, Charles L. Wilcox; and a sister, Betty Libbey.
