VAN BUREN – Douglas Rodney Violette, 75, died unexpectedly April 4, 2010, at his Main Street residence. He was born April 15, 1934, in Van Buren, the son of Calixte and Ernestine (Cote) Violette. Doug was an Army veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, serving his country for more than 20 years, retiring as sergeant in 1972. He was a life member of American Legion Post 49 of Van Buren. “Doug,” or “Rod,” as he was known to many people, was a kind and gentle man who loved his family deeply. He is survived by three brothers, Claude Violette of Norwalk, Conn., Roland Violette of East Hartford, Conn., and Lloyd Violette of Van Buren; two sisters, Norma Gonzalez of Buda, Texas, and Rachel Dubay of New Canaan, Conn.; many nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by special niece and nephew, Carol and Barry of Van Buren. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Committal service and interment will be at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou.
