BANGOR – Ruth Daphne (Knowles) Rollins, 84, wife of 67 years to Oscar Rollins, died peacefully on a beautiful sun-filled Easter morning, April 4, 2010, at the Maine Veterans Home. She was born Dec. 30, 1925, to parents, Ray and Gladys Knowles. Ruth and Oscar lived in the Bangor area most of their lives. Ruth always honored her husband, her children and her church. One of her proudest moments was when her name for the new church was chosen. She was a fervent supporter of Good News Baptist Church and loved everyone in her faith community. She is survived by her husband, Oscar; her sisters, Marie Wienburger and Wilma Vitalone; a son, Darrell Rollins of Glenburn; a daughter, Lorraine Romano and her husband, William, of Hampden; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her sister, Betty Sheehan; and her great-grandson, Andrew Wakeland. The family thanks the staff at the Maine Veterans Home and Community Health and Counseling Service Hospice for their compassionate treatment and for making her final days comfortable. A celebration of her life will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Robert Henderson, pastor of Good New Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Ruth would have wished that if folks chose to make a donation in her memory, it be made to Good News Baptist Church, care of the Rev. Robert Henderson, P.O. Box 8464, Bangor, ME 04402.
