LAKE WALES, Fla. – Leona E. “Lee” Leathers, 66, formally of Island Falls, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at her daughters residence in Lake Wales, Fla. She was born Nov. 26, 1943, in Lincoln, daughter of the late Olney Libby and Alice (Ireland) Libby. Leona came to Florida from Maine in 1986. She was a homemaker, of the Baptist faith and a member of Women of the Moose. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, fishing and traveling. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Leathers Sr., in 1999; and sisters, Joyce and Patricia. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Shaffer and husband, Randy, of Lake Wales, Fla.; sons, Edward Leathers Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Island Falls, Larry Leathers of Winter Haven, Fla., and Eric Leathers of Huntsville, Ala.; companion, Everett “Smitty” Smith; sisters, Carolyn Moore of Mattawamkeag and Donna Bryant of Oregon; brother, Eldon Libby of Texas; four grandchildren, Rachel Sullivan, Dominique King, Wesley Leathers and Lee Shaffer; and two great-grandchildren, Byron and Jordan Waupoose. The family extends a special thanks to Good Shepherd Hospice. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 5, at Marion Nelson Funeral Home with family receiving friends 1 p.m. until the time of service.
