BANGOR – Madeline (Wooster) Spencer, 83, wife of 61 years of the late Leonard W. Spencer, died April 5, 2010, at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. She was born May 15, 1926, in Bangor, the daughter of Hollis and Ruth (Leighton) Wooster. Madeline worked for years at Sears and Eastern Maine Medical Center. She loved to travel and winter in Florida with her husband. Madeline knitted hundreds of mittens for the children and was a wonderful crafter. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and aunt, and will be remembered by all that knew her. She is survived by two sons, Leonard Spencer Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Denver, Pa., and Donald Spencer and his wife, Gail, of Leesport, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Nathan Martin, Kevin Martin and his wife, Jennifer, Leonard Spencer III and his wife, Aimee, Kelly and her husband, Mitch Fasnacht, Eric Tableman and his wife, Melissa, Emily, Shawn and Kimberly Spencer; nine great-grandchildren; one special niece, Lois Gopin of Bangor; many other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Sandra Martin; two brothers, Maurice and James Wooster; two sisters, Margaret Elaine Wooster and Bessie Richards; and one grandson, David Martin. The family thanks the staff and friends at Freese’s Building and St. Joseph Hospital, and especially the Maine Veterans Home. A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 9, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service at the Family Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
