SEAL COVE – Walter E. Higgins Sr., 92, husband of 69 years to Leola M. (Pomroy) Higgins, died April 9, 2010, at Colliers Nursing Home. Walter was born Jan. 31, 1918, in Bernard, to Fred and Beulah (Smith) Higgins. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Beulah; his stepfather, Raymond Farley; and his siblings, Warren, Stewart, Sadie, Hap, Fred and Oscar. He was also predeceased by one son, Walter Jr.; and one granddaughter, Irene Savage. In addition to his wife, Leola, he is survived by one son, Milton Higgins; one daughter, Dawna Spence, both of Seal Cove; one daughter-in-law, Linda Higgins of Seal Cove; one grandson, Benjamin Higgins and his wife, Lisa Higgins, of Bar Harbor; one granddaughter, Laura Schwenkel of Michigan; four great-grandchildren, Nichole Savage, Matthew Savage, Thomas Savage and Kaleena Higgins; and four great-great-grandchildren, Ashlar Savage, Irene Savage, Teresa Savage and Natalie Savage. There will be a graveside service 11 a.m. April 23 at Hillrest Cemetery, West Tremont. Contributions in Walter’s memory may be made to Southwest Harbor/Tremont Ambulance Service, P.O.
