PERHAM – Calvin E. Wardwell, 86, a lifelong Perham resident, died April 18, 2010, in Mars Hill. He was born Oct. 15, 1923, in Perham, the son of the late Oli and Lillian (Helstrom) Wardwell. Mr. Wardwell was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic at Loring Air Force Base for many years. Calvin was a quiet and humble man, but many will remember him as a genius inventor who repaired and invented solutions to many complex mechanical problems as they arose. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and four-wheel. He was solely responsible for the new four-wheeler trail to Salmon Lake. This trail was named after him and dedicated in his honor. Surviving, in addition to his wife of nearly 66 years, Faye (Bowles) Wardwell of Perham; are his children, Tonya Wardwell of Brewer, Linda James of Riverview, Fla., Ruth Brown of Palm Bay, Fla., Sam Wardwell of Levant and Scott Wardwell of Presque Isle; two brothers, Erbin Wardwell of Winchester, Va., and Roddie Wardwell of Perham; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of services noon Saturday, April 24, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with the Rev. William Belmain officiating.
