PORTAGE – Shirley G. Nason, 79, passed away April 21, 2010, at Cary Medical Center, after a long illness. Shirley was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Portage, the daughter of Carol and June Sutherland. Shirley enjoyed baking, reading and collecting coins. She also loved spending time with her great-grandsons, Cole and Ziggy. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Malcolm Nason; three sisters, Phyllis, Opal and Marjorie; and three brothers, Billy, Richard and Rodney. Shirley is survived by three sons, Malcolm Nason and his wife, Jeannie, of North Pole, Alaska, Eldon “Mike” Nason and his wife, Janet, of Portage and Alan Nason and his wife, Tammy, of Portage; seven grandchildren, Alicia, Jessie, Angela, Justine, Sean, Cindy and Kelly; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Parker “Sonny” Sutherland and his wife, Judy, of Northboro, Mass.; and two sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Miller of Venice, Fla., and Florence Maclean and husband, Freddy, of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at Sutherland Cemetery with a reception afterward at Portage Congregational Church.
