BREWER – Abbie Lavena Morse, 82, daughter of the late Leslie L. and Annie (Murphy) Cunningham, and wife of the late Ernest A. Morse, died April 23, 2010, at Kindred Hospital, Peabody, Mass. She was born Dec. 18, 1927, in Bangor. Abbie attended schools in Florida and Bangor, graduating from Bangor High School, Class of 1946. She was employed as a bookkeeper at C.H. Rice & Co. for a number of years. She married Ernie, June 19, 1948, who passed March 22, 1991. Abbie was a driver for Meals for ME for 18 years since January 1992. She enjoyed candlepin bowling at Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lanes on many women’s and couples leagues. She participated in local Senior Olympics and had been a volunteer at Special Olympics for many years. Abbie was a member of Brewer Eagles Club and Bangor Singles Club. She enjoyed her camp at Springy Pond, fishing with Ernie there, watching her grandchildren learn to swim and putting puzzles together on the porch. She was an avid reader and in the summer months you could find her sitting in her rocking chair on the porch reading and enjoying her flowers, trees and the fresh air. She is survived by her son, John and his wife, Judy, of Trenton; daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Walter Kuchtey, of Portsmouth, N.H.; grandchildren, Jody Morse of Ellsworth, Jennifer Morse and her husband, Bernard Lyford, of Vail, Ariz., Anne-Marie and her husband, Timothy Pollack, of Dover, N.H., Lisa Kuchtey and her partner, Marshall Cass, of Tampa, Fla., and Mathew Kuchtey of Portsmouth, N.H.; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Dylan Harris of Trenton and Trinity, Serenity and Malachai Lyford of Vail, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Katie Powers of Eddington; several nieces and nephews; a good friend, Margie Burgess of Bangor; and a very special friend, Mickey Tracy of Hampden. In addition to her parents and husband, Abbie was predeceased by her baby son, Jack. For 16 years she had a favorite companion, her cat, Shivey, who passed in 2008. The family extends their thanks to the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff in the CCU at Eastern Maine Medical Center for their kindness and attention to Abbie for the many weeks after her heart surgery in February. A memorial reception will be held noon-2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at the Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Interment will be afterward at Oak Grove Cemetery, Finson Road, Bangor.
