OLD TOWN – Gertrude M. Wickett, 93, wife of 65 years of the late Chester Wickett, died April 28, 2010, surrounded by family and friends at a Brewer health care facility. She was born Feb. 19, 1917, in Bangor, the daughter of Don and Madeline (Rice) Wilcox. Gertrude graduated from Bangor High School and Beal Business College. She was a bookkeeper for her husband’s businesses: grocery store, hotel, coin laundry, used furniture and antique store, and was also prepared income tax returns at H&R Block for 13 years. She was active with the Girl Scouts for 30 years in the Bangor, Brewer and Old Town areas; was the leader of St. Mary’s Troop No. 4, Old Town; and past president of Girl Scout Leaders’ Association. Gertrude was also past president of Little Flower Society and St. Theresa’s Society, St. Mary’s Parish; and past president of Old Town Emblem Club. She was a member of Old Town Senior Citizens Club, Daughters of Isabella, YMCA Old Town, warden of Old Town Ward No. 3 and the quilting club. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting and cooking, and was a member of Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Old Town. Gertrude is survived by one daughter, Donna and her husband, Ronald Holbrook, of Freeport; three sons, James H. Wickett and his wife, MaryEllen, of Milford, Chester H. Wickett Jr. and his wife, Pauline Bailey, of Stamford, Conn., and Michael A. Wickett and his wife, Cindi, of Old Town; nine grandchildren, Kathleen and her husband, James McLeod, Marty Holbrook and his wife, Kay, Peter Holbrook, John Holbrook, Matthew and David Chilelli, Chester Wickett and his wife, Gwen, Stephen Karger and Michael J. Wickett; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Lee Holbrook, Danielle and Nicholas Holbrook, Sebastian Wickett, Kyra Armitage and Star Wickett; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Ellen Cunningham; and granddaughter, Laurie Holbrook. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Monday, May 10, at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church, Old Town.
