PRINCETON – Rowena (Damon) Cousins, 81, went to be with the Lord Friday, April 30, 2010, at Calais Regional Hospital. Rowena was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Charlotte, daughter of the late Roy and Edwina (Cambridge) Damon. After graduating from Dennysville High School, she furthered her education at Machias Normal School and Farmington Normal School. Rowena then taught kindergarten through eighth grade at East Ridge Elementary School, a one-room schoolhouse in Cooper. She married Charles L. Cousins, Aug. 21, 1948. She went on to a job that she considered her favorite, raising her four wonderful children. She was an airplane observer during the post-Korean War era. Rowena was a former Grange member in Princeton and Charlotte. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, sewing, embroidering and crafts. Her most memorable moments were those spent with her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Charles Cousins Jr., March 7, 2010; sisters, Helen Faucher and Joyce Cox; and brothers, Roy Damon Jr., Willis “Billy” Damon, Keith Damon and Laurence Damon. Surviving are her loving husband of 61 years, Charles Cousins Sr.; three children, Joan Carle and her husband, Barry, of Enfield, Conn., Judy Knapp and her husband, Fred, of Princeton and Brenda Bilodeau and her husband, Don, of Leeds; a daughter-in-law, Ann Cousins of Greensboro, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Scott and Nathan Carle, Karen Powers, Mandy and Nicole Cousins, Brian and Andrew Knapp, Wendy Bays, Lynn Blanche and Cherie Bilodeau; 10 great-grandchildren, Grace, Matthew, Jewel and Hope Carle, Valerie Powers, Tyquain and Devandre Williams, Kaleb Bilodeau, Abigail Bays and Carter Blanche; sisters, Grace Hatton of Charlotte, Ruth Nuttall of Charlotte and Maybelle Pratt and her husband, Bucky, of Kissimmee, Fla.; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Princeton Baptist Church, Main Street, Princeton, where a celebration of Rowena’s life will begin 11 a.m. Burial will be afterward at Princeton Cemetery.
