BRUNSWICK, BANGOR and WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Richard C. Davis, loving husband, father, dedicated counselor, teacher and longtime Maine resident, died April 28, 2010, in West Palm Beach, Fla. He was born Dec. 29, 1931, in Brunswick. He attended Brunswick schools and graduated from high school in 1950. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps that same year and served in Korea as an artillery observer. Returning to Maine from the service, he attended the University of Maine, Orono, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education, a Master of Science degree in education and a Certificate of Advanced Study in guidance and counseling, graduating summa cum laude in 1959. He began his educational career as a teacher in the Bangor school system in 1959. In 1962 he moved to the Old Town school system, where he worked as the high school guidance director for 20 years. Retiring from the Old Town school system in 1982, he worked part time doing guidance counseling for Bangor Adult Learning Center until 1996, when ill health forced him to end his career. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Benita Dorsky Davis; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca J. Davis and Joel C. Weingart of Massachusetts; two sisters, Diane Dungey of California and Judy Nicolet of Ohio; and two brothers, Larry Davis and Herb Davis, both of Maine. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. May 7 at South Florida Veterans Affairs National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Richard C.
