A bomb that would have blown up an SUV in New York’s Times Square over the
weekend is reminding New Yorkers and others of the 9/11 attacks. Early in the
investigation, law enforcement officials have said they have video of a white man who
may have been involved. At the same time, the Pakistani Taliban group is claiming
responsibility for the attempt. Given that there is limited information now, what is your
best guess: domestic terrorist or Islamic extremist? Why? Will the Department of
Homeland Security’s prediction of more “homegrown” terrorism come to fruition? Or
should this event spur stepped-up intelligence and interdiction in countries like Pakistan?
