FORT FAIRFIELD – Beulah Bell Nightingale Summerson Lozito, 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, May 5, 2010, at a Presque Isle nursing facility, with her loved ones at her side, after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 25, 1916, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Walter and Edna (Belmain) Bell. After graduating from Fort Fairfield High School in 1934, Beulah married Moses Nightingale, and began a life raising three children and helping her husband on the farm. Beulah was active in Fort Fairfield Bethel Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist Ladies Sewing Circle, as well as other social activities. She was known for her delicious molasses cookies. She worked for many years at Fort Fairfield Rexall Store until her husband’s deteriorating health required her to retire and care for him until his death in February 1971. In 1982, she married Louis Lozito and retired to Seminole, Fla., until his death in January 1991, at which time Beulah returned to Maine. Beulah lived her life with a loving heart and kindness that will never be forgotten by the lives she touched. She enjoyed the special visits from Kris Bradstreet and her dog, Sierra. Beulah was predeceased by her mother; father; her first husband, Moses Nightingale; her second husband, Frank Summerson; her third husband, Louis Lozito; one sister, Roma Marquis; one brother, Loomis Bell; and three grandchildren, Tami Nightingale, Lisa Nightingale-Baugher and Christopher Nightingale. She leaves behind one son, Carl Nightingale and his wife, Carol, of Presque Isle; two daughters, Carolyn Rackliffe and her husband, Bob, of Fort Fairfield, and Mary Buck Walker and her husband, Clarke, of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; grandchildren, Kim Maynard and her husband, Al, Mike Rackliffe and his wife, Jenny, Ricky Rackliffe, Randy Rackliffe, CJ Nightingale and his wife, Sharon, Cheryl Poitras and her husband, Ken, Jason Nightingale and his wife, Mari, Holly Buck, and Crystal Nightingale; great-grandchildren, Logan and his fiancee, Tiffany, Andrew and his wife, Mandi, Ryan and his wife, Heidi, Jordan, Josh, Olivia, Matt, Kaci, Chris, Ayden, MyKenzie, Alyssa, Kendall, Kara and Alexander; and great-great-grandchildren, Madyson Doody and Gabrielle Rackliffe. She also leaves behind her dear friend since childhood, Beulah Hartsgrove of Ocala, Fla.; her dear sister-in-law, Mildred Bell of Presque Isle; several nieces and nephews. The Mars Hill Nursing Home and Presque Isle Nursing Home staff members will be fondly remembered by Beulah’s family for the warmth and extraordinary loving care she received. Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Interment will take place after the service at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the interment service at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those wishing to remember Beulah in a special way, may make donations in her name to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. May her arrival into heaven grant her the gift of memory and the ability to reminisce with all her loved ones that have met her at the gate. <>
