OWEGO, N.Y. – Newell E. Ware Jr., 80, passed away Monday, May 10, 2010, at Robert Packer Hospital after a lengthy illness. Newell was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Union Church, Owego, N.Y. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked at IBM for 32 years, retiring in 1990. Newell was a member of the Quarter Century Club and was a 40-year member of the Theosophical Society. Newell was predeceased by his parents, Newell Sr. and Thelma Sawyer Ware of Lincoln; and his brother-in-law, Keith Lowry of East Millinocket. Newell is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lorraine; son, Brian and Laurie Ware of Milford, N.H.; daughters, Brenda and Steve Rosser of Apalachin, N.Y., and Kathy and Paul Miller of Ashburn, Va.; sister, Sylvia Lowry of East Millinocket; sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Bill Merritt of Lincoln and Barbara Jones of Bangor; five grandchildren, Andy Ware, Kelly Ware, Stacy and Dan Wilkins, Rachel Rossser and Jeff Rosser; two great-granddaughters, Marissa and Arianna; and many other relatives. Newell will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 14, at First Presbyterian Union Church, 111 Temple St., Owego, N.Y., with the Rev. Parrish Bridges, officiating. Family invites friends to call 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. A graveside service will be held in July in Lincoln.
