TAVARES, Fla., and CORINTH – Cedric Dow, 84, died unexpectedly April 23, 2010, at Leesburg Regional Hospital. He was born March 9, 1926, in Corinth, the son of Albert C. and A. Beryl (Chesley) Dow. He served in World War II in the 9th Field Artillery Battalion and participated in the Battle for the Ardennes and the Rhineland. Cedric grew up working at his father’s shingle mill, George B. Dow and Son. After marrying Pauline Brann, they moved to Bangor, where he worked for several companies including the Bangor Daily News, where he supervised newsboys for many years. They moved to Pennsylvania where Cedric managed Sunnybrook Baptist Camp in the Pocono Mountains. From there he became the superintendent of buildings and grounds at Eastern University, St. Davids, Pa. He was very influential in the lives of many young people at the camp and college. Cedric retired to Tavares, Fla., 20 years ago, but quickly went back to work at Bay Tree Golf Course, where he remained until his death. Cedric was very involved in Columbia Street Baptist Church, as well as churches in Pennsylvania and Florida, serving as deacon, Sunday school teacher and as a member of various boards and committees. He was also an avid bowler. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline, in 2000, after 53 years of marriage; a brother, Lyford Dow; sisters, Carolyn Shackley and Nola Burleigh; and infant sister, Marilyn. He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Dow Reeves and husband, Dennis, of Sanford; two granddaughters, Dr. Rebecca Reeves Eckel and James of Cobleskill, N.Y., and Erin Reeves Kafferlin and Kurt of Sanford; one foster grandson, Sgt. 1st Class Shane White and Amanda of Fort Riley, Kan.; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Eckel, Grace and Samuel Kafferlin, and Caitlin and Ian White. A memorial service was held April 27 in Florida. Burial will be held 11 a.m. May 29 at Corinthian Cemetery, Exeter Road, Corinth, with a luncheon afterward. In case of rain, we will gather at United Methodist Church, Corinth.
