The Courthouse Gallery opens its 2010 season with three exhibits, all very different from one another.
North Carolina painter Lisa Creed will show her series of minimalist coastal landscapes, titled “Sea and Sky.” Creed grew up on Newberry Neck in Surry, and makes a pilgrimage to the spot each year in order to swim in the ice-cold waters. Her paintings reflect the stark beauty of the coast of Maine, devoid of people or other trappings of civilization.
In “Four Fiber Artists,” Hancock County spinners and weavers Sara Christy, Kate Russell Henry, Susanne Grosjean and Susan Barrett Merrill display their masks, rugs and intricate sculptural chains from handspun, hand-dyed fiber.
And in its Spring Show 2010, the Courthouse Gallery gathers 22 artists, working in many mediums, to exhibit the great wealth of talent that comes out of the state — from renowned Steuben-based sculptor Jesse Salisbury to painter William Irvine, who came to Hancock County by way of Scotland.
All exhibits will be on display until June 20.
The Courthouse Gallery is located at 6 Court St. in downtown Ellsworth; hours are 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 12-5 p.m. Sundays. For information, visit www.courthousegallery.com.
