OLD TOWN – Michael Charles Salvato, 87, died June 2, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born May 8, 1923, in Brownsville, Pa., the son of Michael and Ida (Citro) Salvato. Michael married Genevieve Bouchard, Aug. 6, 1946. He owned and operated Mike’s Barbershop, Orono for over 40 years. He was a member of Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church Holy Family, Old Town, a fourth degree Knight of Columbus, member of Old Town American Legion Post 75 and an honorary member of University of Maine “M” Club. Michael was on the Knights of Columbus bowling team, and enjoyed bowling and golfing when he was younger, and volunteering his time at K. of C. functions. He delivered meals for Meals for ME and food baskets for Holy Family Catholic Church on Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was well known for his spaghetti sauce and homemade ravioli. He was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve, Dec. 24, 2003; his parents; two sisters, Mary Rosa and Jennie Adam; and an infant brother. Michael is survived by two children, Dianne Gallant and her husband, Alfred, of Milford, and Michael J. Salvato and his wife, Brenda, of Levant; five grandchildren, Michael Hildreth and his wife, Reese, of Milford, Stephen Hildreth and his wife, Shylani, of Southaven, Miss., Matthew Gallant of Maryland Heights, Mo., Joshua Gallant and his wife, Laura, of Matthews, N.C., and Robin Gallant and his wife, Rumi, of Greenville, S.C.; eight great-grandchildren, Tori Hildreth, Logan Hildreth, Andrew Goss, J.J. Gallant, Thomas Hildreth, Ashley Hildreth, Jasen Gallant and Jacob Broome; four sisters-in-law, Marguerite Easler and her husband, Guy, of Ellsworth, Patricia Kane and her husband, Walter, of Surry, Claudette Townsend of Thomaston, and Ramona Gallant and her husband, Paul, of Bradley; one brother-in-law, Frank Bouchard and his wife, Diane, of Old Town; several nieces and nephews; and close friends, Dick Dumond, Arnold Caron, Doris Cossette and Carroll Clukey. The family thanks Maine Veterans Home, Bangor, for their care of Michael during his time of need. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where K. of C. will recite prayers beginning 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church, Holy Family, Old Town. Burial will be after at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Old Town. A luncheon will be held after the burial at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church.
