OLD TOWN – Edward J. LeBreton, 90, died June 4, 2010, with his family by his side at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born Nov 29, 1919, in Old Town, a son of Edmund and Florence (Bishop) LeBretton. Edward was a very hardworking man, starting around age 12 when his mom died and he helped support the family. He worked as a cook with Civilian Conservation Corps, worked at U.S. Steel and Bath Iron Works before enlisting in the Army during World War II. Edward returned to Old Town after the war and was employed as a surveyor, Old Town Canoe, Old Town Shoe Co. and Diamond International James River Mill, Old Town. He was always doing odd jobs and was known around town as the handy man and worked on many area homes. During World War II he was a duty non-commissioned officer with the Company K 314th Infantry Regiment and saw action at Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland as a sharpshooter. Edward enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family. Family time was very important to him, and he and his wife enjoyed Sunday drives and going out to dinner. He is survived by two sons Jeffrey LeBreton and his wife, Alicia, and Edward LeBreton II and his companion, Marie Fortin; a daughter, Barbara Duncan and her husband, Dale; grandchildren, Daniel and Lauren LeBreton, John Levasseur and Dianna Wolvin and her husband, Scott; three great-grandchildren, Marissa, Cyrnia and Michael; two sisters, Margaret Malenfant and Gloria Oakes; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Lillian, in 2007; three brothers, Charlie, Edmund and O’Neil LeBreton; and a sister, Bernice Morin. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Bradley. Burial with military honors will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Old Town. A reception at St Ann’s parish hall, Bradley, will be after the burial service. Memorial contributions may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3381, 64 Water St., Old Town, ME 04468.
