BANGOR – Bear, 70, passed away peacefully June 3, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Nov. 8, 1939, in Augusta, son of the late Lionel and Virginia Giroux. Bear was raised in Maine and attended various schools in the area. Bear honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force for nine years as an air policeman. He was honorably discharged in 1965 as an airman first class. He continued to honor his country and flag by participating in and leading ceremonies at Maine Veteran Homes. Bear enjoyed the outdoors where he ventured in fishing, hunting, camping, boating and photographing nature. As a true patriot, anywhere Bear was living, camping or even ice fishing, he always raised the American flag. Bear also served his church faithfully as a deacon and chaplain for services at Maine Veteran Homes. Bear is survived by his four children, Jim Giroux and wife, Diane, of Berlin, N.H., Kathy St. Pierre of Augusta, Eddie Giroux Jr. of Augusta and Heidi Flick and husband, Matthew, of Dumfries, Va.; seven grandchildren, Samantha St. Pierre, Michelle St. Pierre, Luke St. Pierre, Sarah Rowe, Rebecca Giroux, Kevin Flick and Noah Flick; and four great-grandchildren. A military graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 10, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
