HAMPDEN – Albert E. Staples, 83, passed away peacefully June 7, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Albert was born May 31, 1927, in Jewetts Mills, New Bruswick, to the late Reginald C. and Helen M. Jewett Staples. Al attended schools in Canada before moving to the U.S., where he became a citizen and enlisted in the Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a supervising electrician and worked as an electrical superintendent on numerous power, coal, copper and other energy producing projects. He worked for many years for Morrison-Knudsen Corp. where he helped build the Boeing plant in Puyallup, Wash. Al traveled around the country, trouble shooting electrical problems in several states, including Texas, Wyoming, Washington and Nevada for Bechtel Corp., Power Plant Division. His last major project was in Tennessee where he helped build the Saturn automotive plant. He was a member of Archon Masonic Lodge No. 75 AF & AM, Dixmont; Scottish Rites Bodies, Valley of Bangor; Anah Shrine; American Legion Post No. 0022 and Witcomb-Baker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4633, both of Hampden. Al was proud to have been a member of Hampden Veterans Memorial Committee. Al was very handy, always working on projects around his house, but most of all enjoyed woodcarving. Al will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and friend to all. Al is survived by his loving daughter, Holly Scott and her significant other, Butch Foss, of Brewer; his two grandsons and their families, Heath Miller and wife, Heather, and their children, Ethan and Makayla, of Newburgh, and Lee Miller and wife, Bethany, and their son, Brody Miller, of Hampden. Al was predeceased by his son, Mark Staples; his wife, Donna Staples; and by two half brothers. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, with the Rev. Dick Woehr officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
