EAST MILLINOCKET – John T. Hackett, 83, husband of Marion “Betty” E. (Kruck) Hackett, died June 7, 2010, at a Bangor nursing home. He was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Brewer, the son of Edward W. and Helen M. (Murphy) Hackett. John graduated from Milo High School, Class of 1944, and the University of Maine, Orono, Class of 1954, where he was a member of Phi-Gamma Delta fraternity. He received a Master of Science in administration at UMO in 1959. John served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. A dedicated history teacher, he began his career at Houlton High School and then taught at Schenck High School from 1962 to 1988. He was an avid sports fan, took pleasure in a good crossword puzzle and especially enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp on Big Boyd Lake. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Betty of East Millinocket; a son, Joseph E. Hackett and his fiancee, Penny Carter, of Otis; two daughters, Anne M. Roundy and her husband, Darrell, of Jay, and Linda E. Kinney and her husband, Calvin, of Bangor; a special mother-in-law, Lucy Kruck of Milo; two brothers, Donald Hackett and his wife, Ruth, of Milford, and Albert Hackett and his friend, Nancy Morse, of Orono; a sister, Mary Buck and her husband, Chester, of Hyannis, Mass.; five grandchildren, Amy, Michelle, Darren and his fiancee, Allison, Matthew and his friend, Tiffany, and Ryan; a great-granddaughter, Brianne; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Edward Hackett Jr. and his wife, Mary. John’s family extends a special thank you to the staff at Eastside Rehabilitation and Living Center for the care and love John and his family received while he was there. A graveside memorial service will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, with Deacon Fred Harrigan officiating.
