BANGOR – Dr. Paul F. Goss, 78, husband of Betsy Goss, died June 13, 2010, at his Bangor home, after a dogged and determined battle against cancer. He was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Donald and Ethel (Plummer) Goss. A lifelong educator, Paul graduated from Higgins Classical Institute and from Husson College. Later he obtained graduate degrees from Springfield College, the University of Maine and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Paul served proudly in the Air Force during the Korean War. Paul later worked as an educator and counselor at Winslow and Carrabec High schools, as well as Foxcroft Academy. Paul eventually worked at Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute and Husson College – a special place for him. Paul loved sports and coached and umpired Little League. He also loved fishing and golfing. He loved to watch the University of Maine men’s hockey team, as well as the NY Yankees and the NY Giants. Paul was a past master of Olive Branch Lodge, Charleston. A caring and fair person, Paul’s love of family was first and foremost in his mind. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 43 years, is a son, Jeffery of Bangor; a daughter, Mary-Sue Massey and her husband, Chris, of Clinton, Miss.; grandchildren, Papa’s greatest gifts, Nathan and Samantha Massey, also of Clinton, Miss., sisters-in-law, Rowene Goss of Millinocket and Mary-Jane Barlow and her husband, Rodman, of Burlington, Vt.; nephews, Jerry Goss of Millinocket, William Barlow of Norwick, N.Y., and Andrew Barlow of Brighton, Mass.; and cousins, Mrs. Freda Smith of Waterville, Frank Crane of Oakland and the Dover Harvey family. Paul was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Gerald; and a sister-in-law, Rosalie. The family thanks CancerCare of Maine and New Hope Hospice for all their help and support through this tough time. Friends, relatives and acquaintances are invited to attend graveside services 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, at Charleston Village Cemetery, Charleston, with the Rev. David Bean officiating.
