GRAND LAKE STREAM – Earl Elwell Bailey, 77, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at his home with his loving family by his side. Earl was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Princeton, son of the late Roy and Alice (Norton) Bailey. He attended school in Princeton and worked in the woods for St. Croix Paper Co. until he entered the U.S. Air Force. Earl served his country during the Korean War as an aircraft mechanic with the 3605th Flight Line Maintenance Squadron. After his service, he returned home and helped operate his family’s camps, Bailey’s Camps, Grand Lake Stream. Earl also owned and operated his own construction company and plowed the roads for Township 27 and Grand Lake Stream. Due to his health, he finally retired in 2008 at age 75. Earl enjoyed puttering in the garage and hunting and fishing. He was a registered Maine guide, served on Princeton School Board, was a member of Lewy’s Island Lodge No. 138 AF & AM, Anah Shrine Temple, Bangor, Princeton Rod & Gun Club, where he taught many hunter safety courses, and William T. Wren Post No. 23 American Legion, Baileyville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Frank Bailey and his wife, Ruth, and Fred Bailey; three sisters, Laura Sprague and her husband, Percy, Katherine Moros and Mary Sheck and her husband, Gene; and a brother-in-law, Lewey Bagley. Surviving are his companion of more than 25 years, Helen Dwelley; three children, Catherine Gardner and her husband, David, of Princeton, Robert Bailey of Grand Lake Stream and Carrie Cilley of Princeton; their mother, Beatrice Monaghan of Princeton; five grandchildren, Alison Gardner and her companion, Travis Cilley, of Talmadge, Sarah Gardner and her companion, John Gagner, of Baileyville, David Earl Gardner of Princeton, Kyle Bailey of Grand Lake Stream and Shelby Cilley of Princeton; five great-grandchildren, Antonia, John, Gunner, Matthew and Anonda; a sister, Beatrice Bagley of Grand Lake Stream; sister-in-law, Lillian Bailey of Washington; Helen’s children, Russell Dwelley and his fianc?e, Wendy Ramsdell, of Waite and Beth Dwelley of Waite; Helen’s grandchildren, Chad Dwelley and his wife, Katie, of Belgrade and Raynel Dwelley of Bangor; Helen’s great-grandchild, Reagan Dwelley; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, June 18, at Village Cemetery, Grand Lake Stream.
