GOULDSBORO – Bernice E. (Temple) Miller Guyton, 71, died June 20, 2010, surrounded by her loving children at a Bangor hospital after a brief, unexpected battle with cancer. She was born April 1, 1939, in Gouldsboro, to Alice B. and Lewis F. Temple. She attended Birch Harbor and Prospect Harbor schools, and graduated from Sumner Memorial High School in 1957. Bernice was extremely talented and a very hard worker. She worked at many jobs, from clamming to building lobster traps, but she loved being a homemaker. Watching over and caring for her children was what mattered to her most. She loved to make quilts, knit mittens, scarves and crochet a variety of garments for family and friends. Bernice was a past worthy matron of Ruby Chapter No. 31 of Order of the Eastern Star and member of Alcyone No. 71, Milbridge. At the time of her death, she was marshal and a past president of Auburn Assembly No. 262 of Social Order of the Beauceant. She is survived by her sons, Frank Miller Sr., Kieth Miller and Carl Guyton; a daughter, Julie (Miller) Mosley and her husband, Steven; one stepson, John Guyton and his wife, Christine; grandchildren, Frank Miller Jr., Rachel Mckenzie and husband, Scott, Tynna Guyton and Nathan Mosley; great-grandchildren, Evan, Lydia, Dawson and Kendall; and siblings, Marshall Temple, Shirley Craven and her husband, William, Marilyn McAuliffe, Eleanor Columbus and Frederick Temple. Bernice was predeceased by husband of 33 years, James E. Guyton; parents, Alice and Lewis Temple; and sister, Elizabeth Reading. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. June 30 at Birch Harbor Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Thomas officiating. A reception will be held after at Prospect Harbor Women’s Club.
