ENFIELD – Sheldon W. Priest, 88, died June 21, 2010, at a Lincoln health care facility. He was born June 13, 1922, in Old Town, son of Horace and Lila (Shorey) Priest. He attended schools in Enfield, Lowell and Howland, and graduated from Lee Academy in 1941. Sheldon was a World War II veteran, serving in the European and Pacific theaters. He married Charlene Butler of Enfield, March 1, 1946. Sheldon graduated from the University of Maine in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy. Sheldon and Charlene moved to Connecticut in 1949. He was employed by National Council Boy Scouts of America as a district executive from 1960 to 1973, serving in Altoona, Pa., Athens, Pa., and Norwich, Conn. The Priests returned to Maine in 1975. He retired from Haskell Lumber Co. in 1987. He then worked part time as a well loved greeter at Wal-Mart in Lincoln for 11 years. Sheldon became interested in the genealogy of the Priest family in 1992 and was the author of “The Search for David,” a history and genealogy of David H. Priest. Sheldon enjoyed time with close friends, Marshal Merriam, Mary Thompson and Carl and Cindy Gustafson. Sheldon was a humble servant of the Great Creator. Sheldon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Charlene; his son, Keven Priest and his wife, Michelle, of Lincoln; four grandsons, Keith and his wife, Heather, of Augusta, Scott of Enfield, Jeremy and his wife, Angela, of Lowell and Andrew Emery of Holden; his granddaughter, Shannon and her husband, Sidney White, of Orrington; six great-grandchildren, Keith-Alan, Maggie, Bradley, Jarrett, Evan and Spencer; two brothers, Leland and Fenton; and three sisters, Celeste, Ardean and Veda. Sheldon was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Bryce and Dwight. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. June 29 at Enfield Baptist Church, with a reception afterward at Ammadamast Grange Hall, Enfield.
