HOWLAND – James “Bob” Foster passed away peacefully June 28, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at Penobscot Valley Hospital. He was born April 11, 1937, in Howland, to Ruel and Celia Foster. Bob graduated from Howland High School, Class of 1954. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He worked at Pine Tree Tanning Co., Howland, and later became manager of Diamond International Sawmill, Passadumkeag. After retiring, he spent his time making wood products in his workshop. He was an avid fisherman and held the state brook trout record for more than 30 years. He will be missed by friends and his greatest joy, his family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Valerie; three sons, Jimmy and his wife, Julie, Scott and his wife, Mary Ann, and Michael and his wife, Susan; four granddaughters, Jessica and her husband, Justin, Katie and her fiance, Dustin, Kacy and her husband, Donny, and Aimee and her husband, Brady; two grandsons, Marshall and Wyatt; and two great-grandchildren, Kaelyn and Blake. Bob was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Paul. Bob’s family thanks the staff at Penobscot Valley Hospital for the tremendous care he received while there. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1, at St. Matthew Cemetery, West Enfield, with Keith Shorey, presiding.
