EASTPORT – Joseph Michael Kratky Jr., 77, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010, at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. Joseph was born Jan. 31, 1933, in Bridgeport, Conn., son of the late Joseph and Anna (Batovic) Kratky. He graduated from Danbury (Conn.) High School, Class of 1951. Joseph entered the Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. He returned to Connecticut and started his own company, J&J Masonry, which he owned for more than 15 years, and became a heavy equipment operator. Later in life, Joseph and his wife, Nancy, moved to Eastport, where he bought a scallop boat and fished scallops and lobster for many years. He was a life member of Calais Rod & Gun Club and enjoyed woodcarving, trap shooting, reading Westerns, traveling and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Kratky; and his canine fishing partner, Champ. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Nancy (Oatis) Kratky; four children, Stephan Kratky and his wife, Hilary, of Pittsford, Vt., Kathleen Mott and her husband, Kenneth, of Sheridan, Wyo., Sally Russell and her husband, Patrick, of Clermont, Fla., and Ruth Chisholm and her husband, Michael, of Trumball, Conn.; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two nephews, a niece; and his faithful canine companion, Roxie.
