MATTAWAMKEAG – Thelma Marie (Gendreau) Gagnon, 80, beloved wife of Lawrence “Larry” Gagnon went to be with her Lord, Jesus, July 17, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Aug. 8, 1929, in St. David, daughter of the late Ida (Bouchard) and Albert Gendreau; and stepdaughter of Leona (Cote) Gendreau. Thelma was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, Winn, which has Father Myles Cyr as the pastor. Her deep faith in God was expressed by her willingness to be involved in many church activities. She was a Eucharistic minister and a lector. She loved to read her Bible and enjoyed going to Bible study. She attended many Life in the Spirit seminars and made her cursillo in Upper Frenchville. Thelma and Lawrence were hospice volunteers for many years and in 1995 they received the Hospice Volunteer of the Year award. They also organized meals after funerals for the communicants of Sacred Heart Church. Thelma was a loving and giving person. She enjoyed knitting and made baby blankets, sweater sets, mittens and socks. Many of these items were donated to area schools. One of her favorite activities was attending yard sales with a meal at a restaurant afterward. She especially enjoyed Chinese food. She was an excellent cook and the whole family loved her spaghetti and meatballs. Thelma leaves behind her loving husband of 62 years, Lawrence “Larry” Gagnon of Mattawamkeag. She was the beloved mother of Elaine Carter of Old Town, Linda Lare and her husband, Troy, of Hermon, James Gagnon and his wife, Sharon, of East Millinocket and Carlene Deschenes and her husband, Romeo, of Brewer. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Lorraine Gagnon, of Milford; and a son-in-law, Willis Carter, of Holden. She also has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren with another one on the way. Thelma is survived by two sisters, Rena Cyr and Omerine Clavette and her husband, Clifford, all of Connecticut. Thelma was a loving sister-in-law to Joan Gendreau of Madawaska, Bunny Gendreau of Bangor, Alan Gagnon and his wife, Gerry, Willard Gagnon and his wife, Jean, all of East Millinocket, Christine Gagnon of Lincoln, Theresa Cummings and Blanche Pelletier of Caribou, and Shirley and Edmond Pelletier of Daigle. She also leaves behind many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by brothers, Reno Gendreau of Madawaska and Leo Gendreau of Bangor; and a baby sister, Shirley Gendreau. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church, Winn, with the Rev. Myles Cyr presiding. Interment will be held afterward at Mattawamkeag Cemetery.
