BANGOR – Shane Patrick Sickles, 24, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 17, 2010, from a heart condition. Shane was born Dec. 13, 1985, in Bangor, son of Nancy and Jimmy Sickles. Shane spent half of his life in Scouts, from Tiger Scout to Eagle Scout. He was lodge chief in Order of the Arrow and a certified lifeguard at Camp Roosevelt. He was an active band member through middle school and high school. He graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 2004, and attended University of Maine of Augusta. Shane had a passion for politics and was a member of the Maine College Republicans, traveling to Washington D.C., and working as a staff member for the Republican Party. Shane spent many summer vacations at Jo Mary Lake, and loved to make his mother nervous by jumping off the cliffs at Gauntlet Falls with his sister, Nicole. Shane was an employee of Fairmount Market for the past three years, which his four-legged “sisters,” Butterscotch and Toffee, enjoyed when he came home each day smelling like pizza. Shane was an avid Raiders and Red Sox fan. He also found great enjoyment in engaging people in political debates. He loved life and was the life of the party. He was a wonderful son, brother and friend. He would want us to celebrate his life with happy memories. He is survived by his “Momma,” Nancy Gott and her husband, Peter; his sister and best friend, Nicole Sickles and her boyfriend, Marc Lynch; his brother, Aaron; his grandparents, Jordan and Patricia Smith; his grandmother, Mary Sickles; girlfriend, Jess Huntley; aunts and uncles, Butch, Snookie, Lillian, Mike, Johnny, Shawn, Mark, Tammy and Barry; many cousins, nephews and nieces. Shane also left many special friends. He was predeceased by his dad, Jimmy; his brother, Andy; his grandfather, “Boom-Boom”; and Uncle Johnny. In Shane’s words, “Life Goes On.” A service of remembrance will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating. Friends may call 5 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday. Shane would prefer summer casual attire.
