HOULTON – Regina (Russell) McCarty Rideout, 96, passed away July 29, 2010, at Houlton Regional Hospital. She was born March 1, 1914, in Fort Kent, the daughter of George and Isabelle (Bard) Russell. After her graduation from Fort Kent High School in 1932, Regina became employed in Houlton, where she made her home until her passing. After her two children were grown, she fulfilled her longtime dream of becoming a nurse. In 1963, she graduated from Maine School of Practical Nursing, Presque Isle, and was employed as a licensed practical nurse for many years at the former Madigan Hospital and then Houlton Regional Hospital until her retirement in 1984. Regina was a devoted, loving mother and grandmother. From the time her daughter Pat was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 28, Regina lovingly cared for her until Pat’s death in 2000, as well as raising Pat’s two children, Douglas and Linda. Regina is survived by her daughter, Gail (McCarty) MacDonald and her husband, Rod, of Brockton, Mass.; six grandchildren, Douglas Grendell and his wife, Melinda, of Fairplay, Colo., Catherine Creamer and her husband, Joseph, of South Easton, Mass., Linda Grendell of Baileyville, Kimberly Beals and her husband, Steven, of Brockton, Mass., Steven MacDonald and his wife, Sharon, of Burlington, Mass., and Michael MacDonald and his wife, Nancy, of Hingham, Mass.; nine great-grandchildren, Melissa Harris Walker, Douglas Harris, Jason and Megan Beals, Abigail, Michael, Catherine, Holly and Lucia MacDonald; a brother, Emil Russell of Houlton; two sisters, Yvette Deabay of Millinocket and Janet Dumond of Lisbon; stepson, Stephen Rideout and his wife, Carol, of Shutesbury, Mass.; stepgrandson, Glenn Rideout and his wife, Hiliary, of Portland; great-stepgrandson, Griffin Rideout of Portland; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 2000 by her husband of 30 years, George Rideout, and her daughter, Patricia (McCarty) Grendell; a sister, Leda Oberg; and two brothers, Gerard Russell and Leo Russell. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Dunn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church with the Rev. David Raymond, celebrant.
