BAR HARBOR – James Winslow Campbell, 87, died Aug. 4, 2010, at his home. He was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Bar Harbor, the son of William B. and Phebe A. (Marshall) Campbell. Jim was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II in Europe, 1940-45. He married Lucille (Landon), in June 1948. He worked 38 years for New England Telephone Co. and Nynex. Jim had been a member of Masonic Lodge No. 185 AF & AM, Bar Harbor; Acadia Chapter No. 31 R.A.M. and Blanquefort Commandery, both of Ellsworth; and Anah Temple Shrine Flag Unit. In the late 1970s, Jim served on Bar Harbor Town Council. In the past, he had been an active member of Telephone Pioneers of American, the board of Mount Desert YMCA, Ledgelawn Cemetery Association and Village Improvement Association. Jim was also a member of Bar Harbor Congregational Church. Jim enjoyed golfing at Kebo Valley Golf Club, fishing at Moosehead Lake and hunting at Number 8. He is survived by his wife of 62 years; a son, William L. Campbell and wife, Laura, of Madison, Wis.; three daughters, Marcia L. Campbell of Lyme, N.H., Janet C. Sullivan and husband, James III, of Braintree, Mass., and Barbara E. Campbell of Braintree, Mass.; six grandchildren, Peter, James and Jane Campbell, Karen Sullivan Kronewitter, and Laura and Mary Sullivan; nephews and niece, James, Robert and Mary Purvis. Jim was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Purvis and Charlotte Campbell. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor.
