BANGOR – M. Elaine Crowe, 85, passed away peacefully Aug. 5, 2010, at her home. She was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Bangor, daughter of William A. and Alice (Welch) Curran. She graduated from John Bapst High School in 1941 and Beal College in 1943. She was a member and past president of Current Events Club, as well as an active participant in various other community organizations. Elaine married John Brendan Crowe Sr., June 5, 1950. Brendan and Elaine enjoyed 43 years of marriage until his death in 1993. Elaine’s focus had always been her family and friends. Especially important to her were summers at Lucerne, where she enjoyed the people closest to her. As a young woman she enjoyed figure skating. This evolved into a lifetime love of dancing – something which she was extremely accomplished at and amazed everyone dancing well into her 80s! In later years Elaine enjoyed playing bridge and made many wonderful friends in the process. Her faith was very important to her. She was a lifelong communicant of St. John’s Parish and member of St. John’s Women’s Council. Elaine was predeceased by her husband; parents; and four brothers, William N., Dennis J., Robert L. and Richard H. She leaves behind her children, Andrea Boivin and husband, David, Maureen Ireland and husband, Greg, and J. Brendan Crowe Jr. and wife, Janet; a special niece, Marcia Marley; and her six grandchildren, Erika Griffin and husband, Patrick, Gregory Ireland, Monica Foster and husband, Robert, Lindsay Bartlett and fiance, Joseph Walsh, and Alison and Emily Crowe. She was also blessed with two beautiful great-granddaughters, Kate and Marin Griffin. Elaine is also survived by a loving, furry companion, Libby. Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at Greenlawn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at St. John’s Catholic Church. Family and friends are welcome to gather after the committal at her granddaughter’s home, 133 Rolling Meadow Drive, Bangor. Those who wish may make contributions in her name to Hospice of Eastern Maine.
