BUCKSPORT – Christel A. Gifford, 78, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010. She was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Berlin, Germany, the daughter of Wilhelm and Charlotte (Fiebig) Schwinzer. Christel loved walks and picking wildflowers. She was very active with her family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time in the community, being neighborly. She had a great sense of humor and was well loved by all. Christel worked for more than 20 years as a waitress at Jed Prouty Tavern. She is survived by and will be sadly missed by her loving family: her husband, Evertt “Charlie” Gifford; her children, Michael Kelley and wife, Paula, of Las Vegas, William Kelley and wife, Carol, of Northport, Susan Allen and husband, Dennis, of Orrington, Heidi Vares and husband, Shannon, of Falmouth and Eric Simpson of Bucksport; grandchildren, Kyle Kelley, Andrea Adams, Christopher Kelley, Kayla and Hannah Vares; four great-grandchildren, Faith, Christian, Dominic and Grace Adams; one stepdaughter, Kim Rioseco of Florida; brother-in-law, Willi Herold of Germany; and two special nieces, Ingrid and Barbara, both of Germany. She cherished all family members old and new. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, George and Hans; one sister, Trauchen; and two stepsons, Gary and Scott Gifford. Family and friends will gather for visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Franklin Street, Bucksport, with Father Bruce Siket. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery, Bucksport.
