HAMPDEN – Bobby R. Scrutchfield, 81, passed away peacefully Aug. 15, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. Bobby was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Benton, Ill., to Guy M. Sr. and Fleta (Rea) Scrutchfield. Bobby grew up in Illinois, where he enlisted in the U.S. Army and then served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Bobby worked on various construction jobs in Maine and out of state for Jack Dunn, MD Hardy, Nickerson & O’Day and Maine Fire Protection. Bobby was a member of Whitcomb-Baker Veterans Foreign Wars Post No. 4633, Hampden. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and friend to all. Bobby is survived by his children, Karen Scrutchfield of Hampden, Larry Scrutchfield and wife, Karen, of Buxton and their children, Amy, Dylan and Leah, Jody Scrutchfield of Lewiston, Andrew Scrutchfield and wife, Kristina, of Portland and their children, Zachary and Abbigail, Allan Scrutchfield of Hartly, Del., and Lois Scrutchfield of Hampden and her child, Ethan; as well as a sister-in-law, Juanita Scrutchfield of Des Moines, Iowa. Bobby was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle E. Scrutchfield; and a brother, Guy M. Scrutchfield Jr. Family and friends may visit 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Lakeview Cemetery, Western Avenue, Hampden, with the Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves officiating. A continued time of remembrance with light refreshments will be held immediately after the graveside service at Hampden Snowmobile Club.
